Description
Hi there! My name is Michael Morris.
Whether you're having a wedding, corporate event, a birthday party, or just a casual backyard barbecue, my guitar and voice can accommodate the atmosphere you need. Raucous fun or intimate ambience, I love to adapt the greatest pop and rock songs for you and your guests. What sets me apart from the other very talented performers and singers here on Gigmasters is my lilting falsetto, which I often interchange with a soulful rock delivery when the mood fits.
I have played in rock bands that have toured the country and played world famous venues such as The Roxy, Whiskey a Go Go, The Troubadour and The Viper Room, and have performed solo in London, Amsterdam, Paris and Barcelona. I have also had the honor of performing with or alongside such talents as Jack Black, Vonda Shephard and Chuck Negron of Three Dog Night. Recently I was hired by a local Los Angeles school district to work with elementary school students in learning how to write their own songs, and even helped them record them. Several new feature films feature my songs, too!
Another thing that sets me apart from many of the acoustic or folk singers is that I tend to tip my scales toward the younger crowd. When it comes to your favorite alternative bands such as Weezer, The White Stripes, The Killers, Radiohead, The Black Keys and beyond, I'm right there with you. Nevertheless, I cut a wide cross-section of musical hits that go all the way back to the 50s with such artists as James Brown or Roy Orbison (check out my lyrical adaptation of J.S. Bach's AIR ON G STRING). Whether it's from the The Beatles catalogue or other great 60s hits, the classic rock hits from the 70s, those catchy gems from the 80s, as well as the rockers from the 90s and 2000s, I'll make them fit the mood of your event. We can let loose and rock out together or I can provide soft accompaniment to your intimate gathering.
Just to give you some examples of flavor, some of my most popular songs are KISS by Prince, TAINTED LOVE by Soft Cell, BLACKBIRD and IN MY LIFE by The Beatles, STAND BY ME by Ben E. King, BEVERLY HILLS by Weezer, CREEP by Radiohead, EVERY BREATH YOU TAKE by The Police, LOVE POTION #9 by The Searchers, WHITE WEDDING by Billy Idol, SURRENDER by Cheap Trick, and TIGHTEN UP by the Black Keys, to name a few (see the sample clips on the right). When clients hear some of my original songs, they often request those too. One of my originals won a 'Best Rock Song' award in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest!
If you have specific song requests, let me know! With my 200-plus song list, I can perform anywhere from two to four hours. Some sets can consist of just soft background music (so people can still mingle), and later in the evening if you wish, we can put up an extra microphone if anybody wants to sing along (a drink or two helps).
The closer you are to Los Angeles, the better the rate. If the drive is an hour or more, the cost will have to bump up accordingly. But I still urge you to look for the most reasonable deal in town! I'll keep in constant communication with you in the weeks before your special event. My sound gear is pretty simple, so I can tuck into tight spaces if necessary.
If you need more than one performer for a bigger sound, I can bring a percussionist/drummer who sings beautiful harmonies (which explains the price range). Or if you need a full band that fits within your budget, I am also a bass player/singer in a popular Gigmasters band called Reality Check. Just say the word, and we'll set you up. On a final note, you could have both solo performer and rock band for the same evening at a special discount!
