Melissa Hyman is a versatile and accomplished cellist, singer and guitarist. A full-time professional musician, she works with many talented local players in a wide variety of styles and combinations. For your wedding or special event, Ms. Hyman can offer several options of acoustic combos. All of them are of the highest quality, with years of professional experience - and above all, a pleasure to work with.

As a cello player, Ms. Hyman is classically trained. Sought after as a studio musician and collaborator in the Asheville area, her repertoire includes everything from chamber music to R&B to pop and improvisation. Available to play as a classical duo with talented violinist Ashley Cofield.

Chelsea Lynn LaBate and Melissa Hyman have a terrific cello-guitar singing duo as well, specializing in weddings and retirement communities. Their repertoire includes many popular romantic hits, made more memorable by the duo's gorgeous vocal harmonies.

Also available with a fine bluegrass combo of whatever size you prefer (including mandolin, guitar, fiddle(s), banjo and/or bass).

As a singer, Ms. Hyman has a Norah Jones-like voice that is ideal for jazz standards and romantic popular songs from the 20s, 30s and 40s to today. Apart from a large repertoire of classic cover tunes you can find samples of her upbeat original soul/folk at her website. She is available to play solo as a singer/guitarist.

• I found Melissa after watching a video on a local Asheville wedding blog. She played the cello and sang with her friend guitarist and vocalist, Ryan Furstenberg at our rustic Hawk and Ivy wedding. For our ceremony they played in a meadow and even practiced the cliche wedding songs I requested. After the wedding, they played during cocktail hour in a barn and I didn't have any music requests, but they built off the energy and mood of the event and the music was awesome. My wedding was rustic and vintage. Melissa understood what I was going for! Very professional and arrived with plenty of set up time.
