In 1979 Jay began studying with John Elliott, a legend among Kansas City jazz musicians. He studied with John for seven years, up to Feb. of '86. All during this period Jay was playing full-time - locally in the Kansas City area as well as touring nationally as a sideman and later with his own band. Today Jay continues to perform, teach, write and record as a respected member of the Kansas City musical community. He performs several times a week and continues to write and record out of his home studio doing soundtrack and instrumental work for clients nation-wide. We loved Valentine and the Knights. They were just exactly what we wanted. Everyone loved their play list and had fun dancing as well as enjoying the soft music during dinner. We will rebook for next year!

We had a blast with Mark Valentine and The Knights! They were the best "non-stuffy yet classy" band we could have chosen for our reception at the Nelson-Atkins Museum. The dance floor was going from the beginning to the end of the party because they were so fantastic! Mark was very easy to work with at the reception. He and the band definitely aimed to please us by making sure we were hearing all of the songs we wanted and he was very good at reading the crowd to decide on songs that we didn't request. We would highly recommend this band to anybody looking to throw a great party!"

We hired Valentine & The Knights from the J Todd Music Agency for our annual Pontoon Crawl at Lake Quivira. All patrons had a great time. Valentine & The Knights were helpful, entertaining, and kept the party lively. They were very open to requests etc... We could not have asked for better. Deborah Ehlers
"Valentine and The Knights did an amazing job at our annual employee party at Union Station. Everyone loved the music and had a great time...the music set the stage to create a fabulous event."
