"The idea for Full Moon Fever came while I was watching 'Running Down A Dream', the Petty documentary. I don't think I'd realized until that moment just how many great songs he's written," says Jeff Beasom who plays the role of Tom in Full Moon Fever. With a career spanning over three decades, 30 Billboard top ten hits, and 60 million albums sold, Tom Petty has few peers in the music industry. Indeed, for generations of music lovers, Tom Petty's songs make up the soundtrack of their lives. So it was profound respect for Petty's accomplishments, and his now-legendary stands for artistic integrity, that inspired Beasom to form Full Moon Fever.
Beasom assembled a band of high caliber musicians for his project, calling on veterans of the Austin music scene who had worked or shared the stage with such legends as Jimmy Vaughan, Asleep at the Wheel and Omar Dykes. Focusing their considerable talents on Petty's catalog, the band spent hundreds of hours dissecting recordings spanning his entire career, including Heartbreaker studio recordings, bootlegs, and live recordings, as well as Petty's solo and collaborative efforts with Stevie Nicks, The Traveling Wilburys, and Mudcrutch. "It was a tremendous learning experience about songwriting, lyrics, and plain old good taste," says Beasom. Each part of each song was learned and rehearsed with an attention to detail to accurately reproduce the sounds from the recordings, an important task since so many fans knows these songs by heart and anything less would be considered a disappointment.
The result is the most faithful Tom Petty music experience available short of seeing the man himself. With authentic arrangements and instrumentation, and Beasom's uncanny impression of Petty's distinctive voice, Full Moon Fever is an extremely convincing portrayal of a timeless artist across all phases of his career. Full Moon Fever presents Tom Petty with reverence and authenticity, taking audiences on an unforgettable journey through one of the great American song catalogs.
