Founded in 1980, the New Flamingo Swing Orchestra plays just right tempos and volume for dancers and listeners who appreciate music from the great American songbook and beyond. The Orchestra was founded by Richard Fenno in Los Angeles in 1980. In 1997, Richard and the Orchestra moved to Austin, Texas. In 2011, Richard returned to Santa Cruz and brought the Orchestra with him.
The Swing Orchestra consists of eleven musicians and two singers. The number of personnel can be modified to suit any event, all the way down to an quartet.
The Orchestra has played a great many places, for a wide variety of parties, receptions and events, including corporate gatherings.
We are veterans of many, many weddings. The Orchestra will work with you, your coordinator, your venue representatives, and your family to make your special day unforgettable.
We provide a sound system, and emcee services are available upon request.
The full Orchestra performs at the All Ages Swing Dance Happy Hours, second Friday of every month at Bocci's Cellar in Santa Cruz.
