DESCRIPTION:
From popular standards to true jazz favorites this trio does it all. Formed in New York City in 1998 as a vehicle for pianist Glafkos Kontemeniotis' thesis compositions, Monk for President also known as Ear Soul Hand continues to explore the limits of musical conversation and interaction. Bassist Ed Kollar and drummer Vince 'Kazi' McCoy complete the circuit through which this trio's improvisation pulses. Monk for President has performed at venues as varied as Bryant Park, Wave Hill, The Central Park Summer Stage, The New York Public Library, Christie's Auction House, The State Legislature in Albany, La Fete de la Musique, The New York Historical Society, and a Tribute to Lionel Hampton at the Schomburg Center. Monk for President is often joined by the wonderful vocalist Priscilla Owens.
