A string quartet will add elegance to any wedding ceremony, cocktail party, or art gallery opening. A string quartet typically consists of 2 violins, a viola, and a cello. Variations of this include a "string trio" featuring one violin, a viola and a cello, or a "piano quartet" made up of a piano, a violin, a viola, and a cello. Other terms used to describe string quartets are "string ensembles", "chamber ensembles", "chamber music", and "classical ensembles". Some of the most well known pieces you might hear a string quartet play at a wedding or private party are "Canon In D" by Johann Pachelbel, "Air On the G String" by Johann Sebastian Bach, and excerpts from "The Four Seasons" by Antonio Vivaldi. Tips For Hiring A String Quartet

Hiring the right string ensemble can be challenging, but Gigmasters makes it fun and easy! Here are five helpful tips for booking the perfect classical music ensemble for your special event:

1. Listen to audio and watch video of as many classical groups as you can. The typical string duo, string trio, and string quartet have multiple audio and video samples available on their Gigmasters press kits.

2. Thoroughly read previous client feedback. Many Gigmasters clients who have hired a classical group have left useful feedback about their experiences. Also keep in mind, a full classical ensemble might be larger than what you'd like, but often times a classical group can reduce the number of performers in order to suit your budget.

3. Book early. A professional string ensemble sometimes needs to be booked 6 to 12 months in advance.

4. Get a contract and read it carefully. Most professional chamber ensembles and string quartets will also require a deposit in order to secure them.

5. Follow up with your string ensemble as often as you need to. Don't be shy about making sure your classical group knows exactly what classical music selections you'd like played!
