Terry Oates and the Mudcats is a high energy show band based on traditional blues influences with a modern flair. They draw inspiration from the original greats such as BB King, Howlin Wolf, Muddy Waters, and many others in their original material while paying homage to these icons of the blues by playing some of their greatest performances in the way they were originally recorded.
They have shared the stage with Tinsely Ellis, Texas Chainsaw Horns, Mary Ann Redmond, Devon Allman, Skyla Burrell and have performed at numerous venues. In addition to performing material by the Blues Greats, they have added their own style to their original album, Lonesome Highway. The concept of their original material has been inspired by discussions on the theory of the blues, concept of recording in the early days, instruments used, and the artist themselves!
When people talk about the blues they usually refer to the style they are most familiar with, but the blues mean different things to different people. After all there are many styles of the blues: Chicago, Texas, Delta, and many more! Terry Oates and the Mudcats have many different influences and backgrounds giving them a unique perspective to the music. They are able to combine Jazz, R&B, Motown, Rock n'Roll, and even Classical into their own style that encompasses everything Blues. Their combination of guitar, bass, drums, horns, vocals, and backing vocals give them the ability to cover and create many styles of the blues.
