They are Canada's most popular R.E.M. tribute band. The band is based in York Region and has many followers on Facebook, Twitter and Reverb Nation from around the world. In fact, when the band posted their version of R.E.M.'s most popular hit, “Losing My Religion”, on Reverb Nation, the song went to number 1 on the local alternative charts. The song stayed at number 1 for three weeks.
“Imitation of Life: A Tribute to R.E.M.” has seen very positive and immediate recognition, largely because of the band's attention to detail in recreating R.E.M.'s songs; everyone who sees and hears the band comments on how much the band sounds and performs like R.E.M.
R.E.M. formed in the early 80s in Athens, Georgia and very quickly became popular with US college radio and rock media. By the end of the 80s, the band had sold millions of albums and was selling out concert tours. In the 90s, R.E.M. became one the biggest bands in the world and signed a then unprecedented record deal with “Warner Bros. Records”. The band became known for hits like “Man on the Moon”, “Stand”, “Shiny Happy People”, “Losing My Religion”, “Drive”, “It's the End of the World As We Know It” and many more. Sadly, in 2011, R.E.M. formally retired as a band. This makes the timing perfect for a faithful, meticulous tribute band like “Imitation of Life: A Tribute to R.E.M.” to try and fill the void and pay homage to such an incredibly talented band.
“Imitation of Life: A Tribute to R.E.M.” plays all of R.E.M.'s best-known hits, which patrons will definitely recognize and love! The band also plays a vast selection of fan favourites spanning from the early days of R.E.M., right up to their critically-acclaimed final albums and everything in between. The band continues to add songs to their repertoire, so patrons will hear a core group of hits plus a revolving selection of fan favourites often selected through social media polling.
R.E.M. was also known for a vast array of cover songs they performed throughout their career. The band loved to pay homage to the bands that inspired them. “Imitation of Life” carry on that tradition by playing many of the cover songs that R.E.M. used to play; songs by Elvis Presley, The Monkees, The Rolling Stones, The Byrds, Wire, Buddy Holly, CCR, The Troggs and many more.
