DESCRIPTION:
For several decades, Ricardo has been a favored entertainer among the Bay Area elite. In this capacity, he has performed for numerous world dignitaries. Among those numbers are: US Presidents Clinton, Carter, Ford & Nixon; US Secretary of State Charles Schultz; British Prime Minister Tony Blair; Corazon Aquino, California Governors Arnold Swartzenegger & Gray Davis; San Francisco Mayors Gavin Newsom & Willie L. Brown, Jr. Oakland Mayors Ronald V.
Dellums (Inaugural Gala, 2007) & Jerry Brown & a whole host of US Mayors at the US Conference of Mayors; International & National Corporate CEO's of Sony, Kikkoman & Charles Schwab.From 14 years beginning in 1982, he performed in San Francisco's Clift Hotel, in the former Redwood Room. He has gone on to release twelve CDs, including "Let Me Hold You", schelduled for release in April 2008.. He schooled himself in a variety of genres and now excels in jazz as well as classical, in gospel as well as R&B and funk. Scales was a musically gifted child. His mother, Patience Scales, was a music teacher. When she saw her son's gift for music, she began imparting an education in music theory. She also found a miniature piano that was just the right size for her child. When he was seven years old, Scales appeared in a recital for the first time. He studied at his mother's establishment, the Parade of Youth Music School. Two years later, he began receiving instruction from Sir Jules Heywood.
His performance during a recital when he was 11 caught the ear of San Francisco Conservatory of Music's founder, Lillian Hogehead. Scales studied with her and went on to win a San Francisco Conservatory of Music scholarship. At the school, he became a student of Beulah Forbes and Beatrice Beauregard. He also took part in workshops given by Milt Jackson, Herbie Hancock, and Bill Evans... His reputation is such that he has long been a magnet for visiting & local celebrities, who seek him out for a night of entertainment &, as often as not, sit in & perform with him. Those with whom Ricardo has shared billing with or who have joined him on stage or have just come to be entertained themselves include such notables as Leontyne Price, Nancy Wilson, Patti LaBelle, Stevie Wonder, The Commodores, Jeffrey Osbourne, The Temptations, Lenny Williams, The Whispers, Chita Rivera, Sheila E, Pete Escovedo, Poncho Sanchez, Charles Brown, John Hendricks, Michael Franks, Bruce Hornsby, Jeff Kashiwa, Jeff Linsky, Nelson Rangel, Spyro Gyra, Tuck & Patti, Narada Michael Walden, Billy Joel, Joe Cocker, Elvin Bishop, Carol Channing, Dolly Parton, Raul Julia, Kris Kristofferson, Robin Leach, Carroll O'Conner, Robert Goulet, Ann Margret, Debbie Reynolds, Eddie Fisher, the Rolling Stones, Roscoe Brown, Barbara Eden, Billy D.
