The piano, also known as the 'pianoforte', was invented in Italy in 1709. An extremely versatile instrument, the piano keyboard spans seven and a half octaves. The two most common types of pianos are the Grand piano and the Upright piano. Probably the most well-known maker of pianos is Steinway & Sons. Throughout history, piano music has spanned nearly every genre - whether it was Van Cliburn playing classical piano, Scott Joplin playing ragtime, Chick Corea playing Jazz piano, or Billy Joel playing pop favorites like "Piano Man". Keep in mind, due to its size, the piano is not easily transportable! Therefore, your venue will most likely need to have a piano on site. Alternatively, some piano players can perform on an electric piano or piano keyboard, but the sound will not be as authentic as a real piano. Tips For Hiring A Pianist

Finding the right pianist for your special event can be challenging, but Gigmasters makes it fun and easy! Here are five helpful tips for hiring a great piano player :

1. Listen to audio and watch video of as many pianists for as you can. Gigmasters has many pianists , and most piano players have multiple audio and video samples available on their online press kits.

2. Thoroughly read previous client feedback. Many Gigmasters clients who have hired a piano player have left useful feedback about their experiences.

3. Book early. Professional pianists may need to be booked 6 to 12 months in advance.

4. Get a contract and read it carefully. Many piano players will also require a deposit in order to secure them.

5. Follow up with your pianist as often as you need to. You also should be sure to let the pianist know whether you have a piano available at the event venue or not. And be sure to go over your musical selections and genres as well!
