-THE WEST RIVER DUO-
Megan Gould:
A well-versed professional musician, Megan Gould has made a career through her remarkable ability to play many styles of music. She is equally comfortable in the studio as on stage, whether charts are provided or improvisation is preferred. Her sensitivity to the musicians around her make her an easy addition to many musical situations. Drawing on this versatility in every session, she is a creative and skilled performer, and she brings her own voice to arrangements and compositions.
Trained classically at Indiana University, Megan continued her studies with an MA in Ethnomusicology (with a specialty in the music of the Middle East) at the University of London, in the UK. She has studied with classical violinists such as Franco Gulli and Henryk Kowalski, and Arabic masters Bassam Saba and Simon Shaheen. She continues playing classical music and Arabic music in NYC. In addition, she has performed in Balkan gypsy bands, Greek rebetica and smyrnaika ensembles, old-time groups (on both fiddle and clawhammer banjo), gypsy-jazz combos, and experimental music groups.
She has recorded for artists such as Lou Reed, Ani DiFranco, Philip Glass, John Mellencamp, Yungchen Lhamo, Bassam Saba, Nico Muhly, Charming Hostess, the Mysteries of Life, and countless others, and has appeared onstage at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, the Kennedy Center, and throughout the world in cities such as Dubai, Budapest, Paris, London, Copenhagen and Helsinki.
