Pokie-Poke The Jongleur & Co. Magician from Bensalem, PA

Pokie-Pokè the Jongleur was founded by Frank Douglas in 1998. We wanted to expand on his street performing background, so we created a character based on influences from his invlovement in medieval re-creation with the Society for Creative Anachronism. A jongleur was the medieval predecessor of the court jester. They usually traveled with troubadours and were used to fill in between song sets or if the music was not being well received. They were jack-of-all-trades as far as entertainers go. Comedians, jugglers, story-tellers, they did whatever it took to entertain the crowd. We have translated this into today's world with juggling, comedy, magic and more. We are a different approach to the variety arts, as well as a great alternative for people who are uncomfortable with traditional clowns.
