Afro-dysia Jazz Band from East Meadow, NY

Afro-Dysia's out of the box repertoire of Latin jazz with the colorful Afro-Uruguayan rhythm of Candombe is injecting a refreshing point of view to the familiar Latin Jazz genre. The organic sound is what sets them apart from the traditional Latin jazz and earns them a strong audience response even from listeners who are not necessarily Latin Jazz music lovers. Mario Cazeneuve , a New Yorker with Uruguayan roots , assembled a group of seasoned musicians with a shared passion for Latin Jazz and Candombe. The band is as diverse as their original compositions. They showcase the rich rhythm of CANDOMBE. Candombe is a style of music born in Montevideo, Uruguay rooted in the ancient rhythms from Equatorial Africa. This is the main form of Afro-Uruguayan folk music and it is today one of the most eloquent musical expressions in this country. Candombe comes from the African term ka-ndombe in the Kimbundu (Bant- Angolan) language which means dance with drums. At the core of Afro-Dysias musical compositions you will find the rhythm of Candombe which is created by playing three different drums , Chico , Repique and Piano forming what is known as the Cuerda de Tambores . The result of the three different drums sounding together is a musical dialogue allowing the self-expression of the musician. The keyboard compositions, the band artistry carry the listener through South American rhythms such as candombe, and other organic sounds to the sophisticated cross-cultural talents of his New York City-based band.
