Jonny, son of Legendary Tejano Hall of Fame recipient Anselmo “Chemiro” Martinez has been dedicated to following his father's footsteps and features him on his latest CD. Martinez has produced 210 projects and 7 to include are his own, Jonny Martinez y Carino (1990), Caminos Chuecos (1995), Ron con Coca-Cola (1998), Mujer Mexicana (2000), La Callejera (2003), Lo Mejor de Jonny Martinez (2005) and Dedicado a Mi Madre (2012).
Memorable hits for Jonny Martínez include the fun, classic title track “La Musiquera” holding the #1 spot for 12 weeks, along with fiery rancheras like Caminos Chuecos and Mujer Paseada. Many remember Jonny by competing for TTMA Rising Star Finalist against Bobby Pulido and Eddie Gonzalez in 1995. Martinez broke borders to Mexico in 1999 with Ron con Coca-Cola and Mujer Mexicana. There's also “Cumbia de la Guitarra,” a great cut that Jonny co-wrote with BMI award-winning songwriter Art Guillermo that alone in the age of the internet has 150,000 hits.
Coming full circle, Jonny Martinez has performed in 29 states in the U.S. and in Monterrey, Mexico, a city of 3 million known as “the capital of norteño music,” but whose music scene has for years appreciated and been influenced by Tejano as well.
Jonny Martinez has produced or co-produced for Artists like Flaco Jimenez, Ruben Naranjo, Nick Villarreal, The Hometown Boys, Los Desperadoz, Eddie Gonzalez and Rebecca Valadez. Martinez also stepped in 2007 to helped Los Desperadoz for 3 years singing for Lead Singer Lee Villareal while undergoing surgery. He's had the privilege to record acts like Jay Perez, Elida Reyna, Ram Herrera aside from sharing stages with Los Tigeres Del Norte, Los Temerarios, Rick Trevino, Doug Supernaw, The Time, Emilio Navaira, Ram Herrera, Jay Perez, Eddie Gonzalez, Elida Reyna. Martinez and Emilio Navaira also own a Publishing company currently accepting songs for commercial use since 2005. He is also the founder of Grammy Nominated AMI Records and ZAGA Entertainment which produces Alegria Jam, The Tejas VIP Party, Puro Party Fiestas, Octoberfest, and the Tejano Vegas Showcases and many other events throughout the year since 2000.
Jonny has been a part of 4 Grammy Nominations including one for his Label AMI Records, AMI Studio and Co-Produced with Art Guillermo in 2006 for a nomination of The Best Tejano Album of the Year for Rebecca Valadez. Up to date, Jonny Martinez has been nominated 4 times as either co-producer, songwriter, duet singer, AMI label owner or engineer thanks to Ram Herrera and Sunny Sauceda under Tejas Records and AMI Records between 2006-2010.
Martinez is An MBA graduate of University of Phoenix and BA graduate of Missouri Valley College, and has contributed solely to the Tejano Industry. Jonny is a multifaceted talent who is not only a great artist, but is also one of Tejano music's brightest moguls.
