DESCRIPTION:
Mambo Tropical, is a non-stop journey through some of the hottest contemporary and classic Salsa, Cumbia, Merengue and Reggaeton sounds of our time. Steeped in the rich Afro-Cuban music traditions and led by the vocals of Yvette Watts, this collection is sure to be a favorite of Latin music fans everywhere. The band can perform to a wide range of requirements from a small, quiet combo to a swingin' full-on 12-piece powerhouse.Mambo Tropical features the riviting vocals of Yvette Watts and the mystic melodies of flautist Teresa Orozco. The Horn Section includes John Halbleib on Trumpet, Jamie Dubberly and Scott Knipplmeir on Trombone. The Rhythm Section has Joaquin Pla on Timbales, Shane Cantanho on Piano, Jim Polizzi on Bass, with Vince Ponciano and 'Paco' Francisco Reyes on Percussion & singing coros. Vocalist Yvette Watts has always been passionate about music. Born into a musical family, Yvette starting singing at a young age, and over the years her dynamic and captivating vocal abilities flourished. After impressing several music industry veterans, Yvette was invited to perform on the TV show Buscando Estrellas and won first prize at the Festival de la Cancion Latino Americana. She has toured throughout Europe with the Cuesta College Vocal Jazz Ensemble and studied with Russian opera legend Marina Koshetz as well as with Nela Girolo. After settling in the Bay Area, Yvette teamed up with classically-trained musician Teresa Orozco-Peterson and veteran performer Jim Polizzi to form the foundation which would later evolve into the 11-piece ensemble now known simply as, Yvette Y Su Orquestra Mambo Tropical. Teresa grew up being exposed to a wide variety of musical styles, including Latin, R&B, Rock, Brazilian pop & Classical. Teresa has or is currently performing with the Monterey Symphony, the Bayshore Lyric Opera, the New Music Works and Agua Na Boca. She has toured with the San Francisco Western Opera Theatre. Teresa has studied with flautist Isabelle Chapuis-Starr as well as Maria Tamburrino and has won several awards and 1st prizes in prestigious competitions and has her Masters in Music Performance Suma Cum Laude. Teresa's influences are Eddie Palmieri, Tito Puente, Ray Barretto as well as Gloria Estefan and Celia Cruz. Joaquin Pla - Percussion
Born in Barranquilla, Columbia from a musical family consisting of six brothers & two sisters all of which play in different groups. Juaquin has played and recorded with flautist Nester Torres, the Lucho Bermudez Orchestra as well as Grupo Niche. John Halbleib - Trompeta
The exceptionally talented John Halbleib hails from Fremont, Ca. John inherited his musical talents from his father and has played for an array of artists including: Aaron Neville, Aritha Franklin and Prince. He also played on the scores of the movie Dogma starring Al Pacino Shane Cantanho - Piano
Shane began classical training in the third grade & then began playing jazz in high school & won the outstanding solo award at the Herb Patnoe Jazz Festival. Aaron Szabo and Don Veca - Percussion After performing non-stop over the past few years, in late 2004, Mambo headed into the studio to begin recording the first tracks of their debut CD, and quickly gained the attention of Latin music legend, Pete Escovedo. Pete was so impressed with the group that he decided to work with the band on the CD as a featured musician.
With the new CD now complete, the group is now gearing up for the Spring and Summer concert season, which will include several CD release events in various cities around the US.
