Just as all musicians are self taught to a large extent so am I, that is ultimately how people bring themselves to their skill levels in any field. But, I am extremely grateful to have had the opportunity to have studied with music greats such as Billy Bauer of The Benny Goodman Orchestra and of the Lenny Tristano Trio. Also to have studied with jazz innovators such as Joe Monk and many other renowned music educators. That experience has provided me with a dimension of musical facility and technique that would not have been available were I entirely self taught. As Billy Bauer has said to me '...you don't learn this stuff by route...!' (Thank you Billy, Joe and the many others who have helped to enrich my life with music.)
I have played many wedding ceremonies and receptions and I love doing so. (I am fully liability insured through Marsh Affinity Group client #894247. I will provide a Certificate of Insurance as is usually required of musicians by most catering houses.) Please listen/watch my audio/video samples on this page and read some of my client feedback. I play all kinds of parties. (I play a jazz style called 'Chord Melody'. This jazz guitar genre is a solo guitar style that does not require vocals or other instrumentation to be complete harmonically, melodically and rhythmically.) My song list includes 'standards', (standards are those pretty songs from the 1930s & 40s) and soft rock played on guitar with (or without) vocals. It is very nice as soft background music for family parties, cocktail hours and weddings. My music is beautiful, interesting and nostalgic and will not overwhelm family and friends attempting to carry on conversations as many other live musical acts tend to do. My 'Jazz Standards' set would be perfect for a cocktail hour. I always present a professional appearance dressing appropriately for the occasion. Good luck with your event. • I hired Terry Brady for a corporate cocktail party on relatively short notice. He was punctual and professional, and it all went very smoothly. But I can't say enough good things about his music! The style he plays — light, but sophisticated sounding jazz that's not at all difficult on the ears — was a natural fit for anyone who wants music that is both pleasant to hear but also easy to blend into the background.
