Description

I am a classically-trained jazz pianist and vocalist. I was raised in a musical family. I learned to read music as a small child while I was learning the alphabet. I play either with my trio (drums and bass, or guitar) or solo. If there is no grand piano available at the venue, I typically bring three keyboards - a stage piano, a Hammond XK3c organ, and a digital synthesizer and can bring my own PA if necessary. If playing solo, I judiciously make use of a drum machine. My playlist is broad and encompasses different genres- jazz standards such as Just the Way you Look Tonight, Route 66, Mack the Knife, My Romance My Funny Valentine; classic jazz tunes with elaborate piano work like In a Sentimental Mood, Round Midnight, Caravan etc; romantic classics like Georgia on My Mind, You are so Beautiful, Sunny; Moondance; some R + B tunes such as Just the Two of Us; Me and Mrs. Jones; pop songs done in a jazz style such as Just the Way You Are, This Masquerade; some blues like Key to the Highway, and if the event dictates some other genres I enjoy some acoustic jazz versions of some reggae like Bob Marley's No Woman No Cry, Redemption Song. In addition if the situation dictates, some soft rock. I do some original work in the singer-songwriter category as well. I love the opportunity to play acoustic piano at shows and welcome venues with a piano. I enjoy an energetic style and try to adjust my repertoire selections to fit the crowd and the mood. I believe that in the absence of a band, a solo performer with excellent technique, creativity, and the right gear can be very captivating to a crowd. Performance is a symbiosis with the performer relaxing and entertaining a crowd and receiving in exchange an energy that fosters inspiration, creativity, and future growth. I believe in timeliness, respect, reliability and in honoring commitments. I take music very seriously just like my other career in neurosurgery. My musical work has been featured in national magazines like Jazziz magazine(October 2007), and local publications such as the Atlanta Journal Constitution Living Section (Aug 18, 2008), the Piedmont Review, and Vigor magazine.

Feedback

  • Michael, Wanted to let you know that everyone enjoyed the music you provided for our wedding reception. Your professionalism and attention to detail made it all autopilot for me. That’s something I appreciate in addition to the perfect song selection and performance. -- Dan L, Atlanta, GA, 5/22/2010
