HOW N2K STARTED
By the time Norm Freeman and Katherine Cash were 24, they had both received Bachelors and Masters of Music degrees from the Juilliard School in New York.
Over the next two decades or so, Norm performed and recorded with the New York Philharmonic, winning a Grammy Award, toured the world with Barbra Streisand, studied composition and earned a Masters of Divinity at the General Theological Seminary in New York.
During this time, Katherine was recording, touring, performing solo, in recital, as a chamber musician and as concert master of chamber groups and in a string of hit Broadway shows, working as an executive in the financial industry, earning a double Executive MBA at the University of Southern California and the Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and at the same time serving as the founding president of a company in the service sector in Tokyo.
Norm and Katherine formed the duo ensemble “N2K” in 2011 and have bookings throughout North America and in France. N2K has introduced “Soul Breaks”, musical liturgies and sacred healing concerts offering a fresh way to reach out to a broad-based community, in addition to performing Jazz Vespers, conducting lecture-recitals, performing live concerts and being the main attraction at numerous events.
N2K is unique ~ the first professional Violin-Vibraphone (or MalletKAT) duo in the world. Juilliard-trained, award-winning musician-executives, successful, global double-hatters who team up to inspire and refresh you.
Norm, a member of Barbra Streisand's rhythm section, is the Principal Timpanist of The New York Pops Orchestra, leads retreats and performs regularly throughout the state with his jazz quartet, a highly regarded voice in the genre of jazz vespers that he first performed in 1998 in Greenwich, CT.
Katherine performs unaccompanied solo concerts and events, performs chamber music in concert, arranges, composes, conducts youth orchestras and is a pedagogue.
Through the 2014 season, Katherine and Norm have composed or arranged all the works they play as the duo ensemble N2K, with a repertoire ranging from popular and Classical to jazz, meditation, sacred and original works. They also perform jazz standards in Jazz Vespers, joined by Norm's jazz quartet.
