PEARL MOON - a Janis Experience
This is the quintessential Janis Joplin experience. Spot-on, emotion laden power vocals and a tight, dynamic rock band drive this energetic live-wire show. Augmenting the psychedelic music of the era, PEARL MOON has teamed up with San Francisco light show guru Kenneth Michael Roberts to incorporate a stirring live multi-sensory music experience with the original Psychedelic Express Electric Light Show. This visual experience is straight out of The Winterland Ballroom and The Fillmore West during the San Francisco Summer of Love. The combination of the two is a jaw-dropping experience that not only respects the music of Janis Joplin but celebrates the powerful messages that Janis brought to the world of popular music.
PEARL MOON lead vocalist Gaye Lee Russell has been a professional vocalist, musician, voice over artist, writer and performer for over forty years. Whether singing blues, jazz, rock or other genres, she has shared stage and studio with an array of prominent musicians such as Muddy Waters, Elvin Bishop, Gil Scott-Heron, Robert Cray among many more top-flight performers. As a teen-ager from the 60's San Francisco psychedelic blues music scene, Gaye Lee shied away from the “Janis” stigma that has followed her through the years. Wanting to be appreciated for her own "style", Gaye Lee embarked on her own musical journey for many years that eventually brought her back to her "Janis" roots. No matter what she sings, as soon as she hits the stage with her long flowing, wild hair and belts out a song it is crystal clear to the listener what she was meant to do. Deciding to finally embrace the music of Janis Joplin and satisfy her audience, Gaye Lee has combined musical forces with three dynamic West Coast musicians who together share a strong history of the San Francisco music scene and the music of Janis Joplin to give birth to PEARL MOON – a Janis Experience.
Growing up in the Bay Area among a family of musicians and artists, guitarist Roger McConnell continues to feel a deep connection to the ideals of the Love Generation and the incredible music that was created in the 1960's San Francisco environment. As the brainchild of PEARL MOON, Roger exudes this message through his guitar playing and through the music of Janis Joplin. A superior "live" guitarist, Roger McConnell brings amazing energy and brilliance to all of his musical endeavors which places him in high demand on club and studio circuits. He has shared stages with top flight bands such as Starship, Quiet Riot, Foghat, Robin Trower, Rick Derringer, Savoy Brown and Commander Cody. Roger McConnell is also one of the founding members of the extravagant, West Coast power pop band, Phamous Phaces that has 2 European and several US wide festival tours under their belt.
Eddie Clark, percussionist for PEARL MOON, has been the drummer on 3 BMI W.C. Handy Blues Award CDs. He has been a drummer for the great William Clarke, Floyd Dixon, Roscoe Gordon, Lester Butler and many other distinguished musical luminaries. Clark has toured nationally and internationally, including Russia, with several top-flight bands and is a well-seasoned session player. A veteran of the West Coast music scene, Eddie Clark has appeared on network and international television and is a well respected percussionist in many music genres.
Trey Longstreth, bassist and vocalist with PEARL MOON, was a true child of the San Francisco 1960's music arena. Trey's father, Russ Long, was a popular jazz musician and Trey was raised with all the sights and sounds of the infamous Summer of Love. Playing music and touring with over 50 bands throughout the years, Longstreth toured Europe with Sachiko Kanenobu, a stunning cult figure in Japan's vast psych-folk underground and ex-wife of American rock critic Paul Williams. With over five years as bassist for the Jerry Garcia Tribute Band, Cap'n Trips, Trey Longstreth brings to PEARL MOON the solid rock and blues grooves that round out this unique and talented group of musicians.
Uniting with powerhouse guitarist Roger McConnell, bassist Trey Longstreth and drummer Eddie Clark, Gaye Lee Russell has joined forces to create a chemistry that recalls the positive vibes of the flower generation and the unique vocal power of Janis Joplin. Together they recreate the truest essence and dynamic style of Janis with the most accurate renditions of Janis Joplin songs imaginable! When you are experiencing the band PEARL MOON you can't help but take notice and realize that you have either traveled back in time or are witnessing Janis Joplin come back to life...Whether they are playing music on Ken Kesey's old flat-bed truck at The Gemini Festival or on the big stage in front of thousands, PEARL MOON is a Janis experience and they are far-out man!
