Patrick Hutchinson Celtic Bagpiper from Providence, RI

Patrick Hutchinson is an internationally recognized performer and teacher of the Irish Uilleann pipes, with more than thirty years experience and an eclectic repertoire that encompasses both the traditional and the experimental. He has appeared on WGBH's A Celtic Sojourn, with the Cambridge Revels, and on recordings by Loreena McKennitt and Oliver Schroer, among others. He has provided the music for many theatrical productions including Brian Friel's Translations, Frank McGuinness's Observe the Sons of Ulster Marching Towards the Somme, and Carthaginians, and his piping can be heard in the Highlander movies. The Irish Uilleann pipes are perhaps the most complex and sophisticated bagpipe in the world, and their haunting sounds have graced many a wedding, and soothed many a soul at funerals. Unlike the louder Scottish highland pipes, the Uilleann pipes are at home both indoors and out, but if you're looking for the chap with the cute knees marching up and down, that's not me, as the Irish piper neither marches nor wears the kilt--the Uilleann pipes are played sitting down. A typical performance for a wedding or funeral might comprise a processional, bridal, or funeral march, a contemplative slow air, and dance music stately or exciting. Larger ensembles (in duet with fiddler Armand Aromin; other combinations also featuring concertina, and flute) can also be arranged.
