Auntie Geri has recorded "Na Mele 'O Ku'u Ohana" CD that features traditional Hawaiian music, dedicated to her parents and family and recently the EP "Auntie Geri Sings Nani La'ie". Auntie Geri is also certified to perform weddings. BIO: Auntie Geri was born and raised in La'ie, O'ahu. She has an amazing voice, so well suited to the traditional Hawaiian music she loves to sing, which is why she is known as "Songbird" everywhere she performs. Her family was very musical so she grew up surrounded by traditional Hawaiian singers, musicians and hula dancers. She had performed for many years with her family, the Kuhia Ohana, featuring her mom, Auntie Liz Kuhia, and her dad, Uncle Miki Kuhia. She lived in Texas for 12 years and learned to love and how to sing Country Western songs. She has had the opportunity to sing with top name recording artists such as Auntie Genoa Keawe, Al Harrington, Poncie Ponce, Uncle Joe Keawe, and even once with Elvis Presley. She toured Japan with Danny Kaleikini, Aaron Sala, and a host of other entertainers. Auntie Geri sang for many years at the Merrie Monarch hula competition in Hilo, Hawaii, for Sissy Kaio's halau. Auntie Carole was born and raised in Southern California and is Hawaiian at heart. She lived for a while in Anahola, Kaua'i. Her family was very musical also, and she started her musical career playing piano at 4 years old. Her mother, who played Boogie Woogie piano with the big bands in the 1940's, so loved Hawai'i and the Hawaiian culture and passed on her love of Hawai'i to her daughter. Carole danced hula as a teenager, then taught herself how to play guitar and bass, and started playing Hawaiian music with Bill Kamaka and his Hawaiian group at 20 years old. Carole put together a Hawaiian Floor Show and band and toured the states for a while, then with her all female touring Top 40 band, Sassafrass. She also toured the states with the well-known all-female Country band, Country Spice. Through the USO she toured Viet Nam in 1970 performing 35 shows for our service men and women. She has played with many nationally known hula studios, (halau), including Moku Yoshikawa, Kanani Kalama, Auntie Noelani McIntosh, Kaiolani Bosque, Portia and Pete Seanoa (Tiare Productions), etc. She is so grateful to Auntie Geri for giving her the chance to be back in the Hawaiian community playing the music she so loves with such wonderful people. Auntie Geri and Auntie Carole just finished performing their very successful 3rd concert at the Ruth B. Shannon Center for the Performing Arts in Southern California on October 24, 2015. They have performed many concerts over the past 11 years on the mainland and in Hawai'i. They released a traditional Hawaiian hula CD in 2011, entitled "Na Mele 'O Ku'u Ohana" (songs for my family) and just released their second EP CD, "Auntie Geri Sings Nani La'ie, featuring the song, Nani La'ie that was written by her great grandmother in the early 1900's. It has never been recorded until now. Nani La'ie speaks to the beauty of their hometown of La'ie on the island of O'ahu. It also features 2 original songs composed by Auntie Carole. Besides performing their own concerts, they have also opened 2 concerts for the Makaha Sons and one for Maunalua, performed in concerts with Amy Hana'iali'i, Chino Montero, Kuana Torres, Shawn Ishimoto, Bucci Canencia, Leokane Pryor, C.J. Helekahi, Touch of Gold, and many other groups and performers. Auntie Geri and Auntie Carole are Mehana Music. Mehana means warmth and they love to share the warmth of their Aloha spirit through their music. Mahalo!
