When Michele Mountain plays the harp, it can be hard to tell where she stops and the music begins. That's what happens when you combine 23 years as a working harpist with the sheer gratitude of someone who loves their work.
Michele has played at hundreds of weddings, churches, hospices, senior centers, corporate events, historical period events, coffee shops and book stores on both the East and West Coasts. She has also taught for over a decade to students ranging from the very young to the very old, released two full-length independent CDs that she sells at gigs and independent music stores, and performed and spoken at harp conventions. All while raising two little girls with her husband.
While Michele mixes in everything from classical to pop in her solo and ensemble performances, her forte is in traditional Celtic and Irish folk music, as well as religious music. Her warm and evocative voice is a strong accompaniment to the tasteful arrangements and precise patterns of her instrument, and betrays the same joy in performance.
As her body of work shows, Michele is a strikingly versatile performer, with the ability to always be appropriate to the setting and venue. Whether she's performing at a Labyrinth walk outdoors in the elements, alongside a parade route for a charity event, or indoors in a modern amphitheatre with amplification, the performance is the same – a celebration of music and life that brings joy to every heart. Whether the setting is formal or relaxed, joyous or devout, she is also in tune.
Michele's harps include 30 and 34-string lever harps, and a portable 25-string “lap” harp for use as a strolling minstrel.
