Description

After moving to Portland, Oregon in 2008, she has become well known as Portland's "Bicycling Street Harpist," a popular feature appearing all over the city with her harp and custom-designed bicycle trailer. She has been jokingly referred to as the "zero-emissions" harpist and has been featured on several online news sources including BikePortland.org & Streetsblog.org and the Portland Tribune for her musical skills and environmentalism.

Halley's exuberance and passion come out in her music; a unique blend of traditional Celtic and Irish pieces blended seamlessly with her own variations and arrangements. Beginning her career over ten years ago as therapeutic music for nursing facilities, she has since performed for choral performances, in pubs/restaurants/cafes, for art galleries, weddings, receptions, corporate dinners, funerals and more.

Performing professionally full-time, Halley often tells new clients, "I will be the part of your [event] that you don't have to worry about!" Her willingness to work with clients for a variety of different occasions makes her a delight to hire; eager to do what she does best; making beautiful music.

When not traveling by bicycle, Halley opts for the most sustainable transportation options, varying from hybrid cars, bus/train and carpooling to events.

“To hear and watch Halley play is to understand how beautiful a folk harp can be and what a serious musician can do with one. She has played twice for us at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Portland, OR. The first time was as a guest muscian for a summer high mass; the second time was to provide incidental music for the dedication of our Bicycle Shrine on All Soul's Day. The purpose of the shrine is to celebrate the joys of cycling, to pray for the safety of everyone on the road, and to remember Portland's fallen cyclists. Imagine those three concepts put to music and you will understand the quality of her work.” -- Mic F, Portland, OR, 1/21/2010

Feedback

  • She was very good. We had an event for our organization and she showed up 40minutes early just to make sure she had everything set up. She came with her own cart and supplies and speakers and did need a single thing. When she sat down, she went straight to work without a complaint (even when the room became very warm due to so many people). She was great to talk to and it really showed that she had a passion for the harp! Her playing was amazing and played for an hour straight without a break. She gave me an amazing price for the event since our organization was a non profit. I would recomend her for anyone! -- Bianca P, Portland, OR, 5/21/2012
