Description

I am a native of Houston, Texas and have been performing professionally on guitar and piano for 20 years. I worked full time as a performer and teacher in the Houston area beginning in 1999 until relocating to Los Angeles in 2006. I have since established myself as a respected teacher and performer based in the Los Feliz area.

I began studying at the age of 10 and started performing professionally at the age of 15. I studied with Jazz great Shelly Berg while performing with the San Jacinto College Jazz Band. I have performed extensively with various ensembles and as a soloist. I am a fingerstyle guitarist and pianist; performing on steel string acoustic, nylon string (classical), and piano.

My solo repertoire is a fusion of various genres and time periods, as you will see from my song list. In general, I prefer Romantic Classical, Latin, Roots, Country, Bluegrass, Folk, World, Irish, Celtic, Renaissance, Jazz, Flamenco, Rock, Blues and others. My song list includes pieces that I play on guitar as well as piano, and many I play on both.

The song list itself is not complete. There are simply too many pieces in my repertoire to fit on the list, but hopefully the list will give an idea of what styles I prefer to play. Furthermore, I learn/remember pieces (depending upon complexity) in a matter of minutes. I do take special requests and will learn new pieces to suit your event if they are not already in my repertoire.

I have recently uploaded a video of one of my solo pieces to my website, so please visit that as well (send me a message to get link to website). The video was not small enough to fit on this site.

I perform solo and also have a female vocalist upon request. Please search for "The Miles Donahey Duet" on this site, if interested.

I can perform completely acoustically (without a sound system) as well as with a sound system. My steel string and classical guitars are both set up to connect directly to my portable sound system (or any house sound system).
