Live music and Greece have had a long history which dates all the way back to the first century AD. During that time, poetry, dancing, and music were inseparable, and they constituted an important part of a Greek citizen's everyday life. As Greek music flourished, Greek musicians produced a number of unique instruments and dances. The bouzouki, for example, is an instrument which is synonymous with Greek music and Greek bands. The Bouzouki is a long necked "folk guitar" which resembles a mandolin, and comes standard with a Greek wedding band. The typical Greek band will include the bouzouki, piano, drums, two or three vocalists, a violinist, a clarinetist, and a keyboard or synthesizer player. For a more intimate setting which requires Greek music, just a bouzouki and guitar can be utilized. Greek bands are widely popular at festivals, restaurants, Christenings, and of course, Greek weddings! A Greek wedding band will play all types of Greek wedding music, from traditional to new 'laika' (modern Greek music).
