Catherine Waters Gospel Singer from Virginia Beach, VA

"Delight thyself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart." Nobody has lived this scripture more, than Catherine Waters. A single mother and 9-year military (USN) Veteran who was born in Kinston, NC; and a resident of Virginia Beach, VA for over 25 years, Catherine (Cathy's) journey hasn't always been an easy one. When her daughter, Kyra, was between the ages of 4 and 5 years old, Cathy found love and got married, but her happiness was short-lived as she found herself physically & emotionally entangled in a relationship that was filled with drugs, verbal & physical abuse, and mental control. Her financial situation escalated eventually into bankruptcy, yet in the midst of all this emotional turmoil, she amazingly managed to hold down a job, paying all the bills herself, including the bankruptcy courts. Cathy did the best she knew how under the circumstances, but she was deeply under the control of her husband, who required that they both be on drugs together, and the pressure to conform was too great for her. Something inside of her though, wanted better, she knew somehow, that life could be better than this. And where she found her solace, was through church. During her marriage, Cathy had her feet in both worlds......living her life daily under the influence of drugs and abuse, and escaping whenever she could to church, for hope and guidance. One day, when her daughter was 9 years old, it all came to a culmination. While in a drug induced state which she knows should have taken her out, instead, Cathy had a spiritual awakening, seeing a spiritual presence around her and hearing God speak to her these words: "Who is going to take care of that child? It has to be you, you're her mother." This was the major turning point that changed everything for Cathy, and she has never looked back. Although still in the situation for some time yet, she found her inner strength & determination to stand tall & say no more drugs. She stayed in church as much as possible, finding friendship and genuine concern with people who cared about her. Her deliverance from this part of her life was a painful one, but she feels so blessed to have been delivered, and in such a powerful way. And, as her desire grew everyday to serve God more & more, she began using her gift of dance to inspire and empower others, and eventually found herself wanting to elevate her service to God's Kingdom even more. She wanted to express her joy and bless others through song, through her voice. God granted the desire of her heart and she was asked to join the church choir. Cathy says "I have been singing for God since 1995. Every song that i sing, and every dance movement that I make, is to show my love for the Lord. I must tell others about Him. I want to be used by the Lord in whatever way He sees fit." Since that moment, Catherine Waters has done so many amazing things! Singing with three community choirs: TICC, Virginia Mass Choir and Virginia Beach Interdenominational Choir, Toured internationally in 2007 and 2008. Auditioned for the stage play "Road 2 Redempshun" and blew the judges away. She was instantly chosen to sing background vocals and to become an understudy for the roles of Grandma Aubrey and Erika. Cast in the roles of Hattie Mae and Sable in the hit play "Reality Check." Cast in the leading role of Ma' Sybil in the new hit play “You Get Back What You Put Out." Cathy's life these days is filled with miracles and blessings. Her little 9 year old daughter, Kyra, is now 30 years old, happily married for 5 years with her husband, Maleeak Legester, and together they have given her the most wonderful grandbabies: Ma'kai (2 yrs.) and Maleeah (10 months). "God has blessed me and I thank him for his goodness. The doctors didn't think my daughter would be able to have children because of a medical condition, but God proved them wrong!" Cathy's blessings & joyful life continues as she has started her own music ministry, and this singer / songwriter / actor / praise dancer / worship leader's future plans are to continue in any capacity that the Lord gives her to help lift up Jesus in other ministries, and by sharing her gifts in song, in dance and in acting. "I just want to tell others about Jesus!" Cathy has just released her CD "Songs in the Key of Jesus" which is available now. Her single from the CD called "LET'S PRAISE THE LORD" (which was written by herself and her sister, Kathleen Waters), was selected to be performed at the 2013 Gospel Music Workshop Association New Music Seminar in Cincinnati, Ohio. And in a very proud moment, Cathy won "2014 URBAN RHYTHM AND PRAISE SONG OF THE YEAR" for "LET'S PRAISE THE LORD."
