Booking Funk Bands

Funk bands bridged the gap between soul/R&B and disco. Starting in the late 1960s, a prominent beat took over as the most noticeable element that funk bands incorporated into their music. With heavy drums and bass guitar, funk bands turned out songs big on beat. Originally, this type of music de-emphasized melody and lyrics with artists such as James Brown, relying more on percussion and dance rhythm than a solid message. But as the genre entered the 70s and 80s, funk bands including Kool and the Gang, the Commodores as well as Earth, Wind & Fire re-incorporated lyrics as a primary element of their songs. Even today, funk bands continue to be popular for dances because of the strong rhythm. With a great diversity in instruments, funk musicians can use drums, bass guitars, rhythm guitars, keyboards, synthesizers, brass and other instruments when they perform. Regardless of what instruments they incorporate, one thing is certain: The dance floor will be full!

Tips For Booking A Funk Band
