Description
We do not just perform WE ENTERTAIN !!!!!
Have you ever closed your eyes while listening to music and thought you were back in
a certain time period? Well, if you listen to the Jolly Rogues that is what you are
doing. Stepping back in time, when the only way to express yourself was through lively
discussion and music. Music tells the story that is so often lost in history.
This talented group of musicians and singers came together as re-enactors, historians and
friends. The Jolly Rogues started as a group of historic interpreters at Minuteman
National Historic Park and spread their collective wings to become one of the most
historical music groups in New England.
The Rogues repertoire of 18th and 19th Century music has been researched to provide
music heard at different times in the nation's history. The music consists of ballads
and tales, shanties and songs of revolt. As the Rogues have been come a staple to some
event planners in Boston, they have included contemporary pieces that explain Boston's
and New England's place in the world. These songs make up perfect entertainment for
concerts, events and other gatherings.
Depending on the venue, the Rogues appear with the core musicians and add special
entertainment to round out the event. Each member is attired in the 18th or 19th
Century clothing to add a special flair to the performance. The Rogues are not just
musicians but great entertainers as well. The group has carved out a niche in the local
musical entertainment circles. So why not make them a part of your next event or
gathering.
The Rogues:
Jim Murray--manager and singer. Jim plays guitar and mandolin. Prior to forming the
Rogues, he performed at Sail Boston, Minuteman National Historic Park and other local
venues.
Al Hicks--a tenor with skills on the guitar and banjo. Al began his career as a 1960's
folk musician, appearing at local clubs and events.
Paul Harty-- Playing a smart fiddle and guitar, Paul has founded and performed with such
groups as "St. James Gate" (Irish), "Quarter Moon" (old country harmony) and "Blunt
Instrument" (electric folk).
Mike Ryan--percussion and historian. Mike has used his historian skills to help select
the music and do all the historic anecdotes.
Song selection is based on what type of program requested. Some of the pieces are Rosin'
the Bow, Captain Kidd, All For Me Grog, the Mermaid,
Boys of Blue Hill, Hal an Tow, as well as hornpipes and reels. Add to this list
children's songs, ballads, tavern and drinking songs as well as any contemporary songs
requested.
The Rogues have played as far away as Beijing and Shanghai in 2006, Germany's Sea Shanty
Festival in Dahme, Germany in 2005. The Rogues have a special relationship with England
and Wales, having toured there in 2004. Their music has been heard in New Bedford at the
Whaling Museum, Strawberry Banke for the "Christmas Stroll" as well as the Camden , Maine
Tall Ship Festival. Events for historic societies and local organizations are always on
the Rogues radar, as many of these organizations invite them to perform year after year.
And again in 2011, Rockport, Ma will be entertained on New Year's Eve by the this group
of merrymakers.
Please take an opportunity to listen to the Rogues on iTunes, Amazon, or on CD. And
please check out the reviews of various events we have done in the past year.

Feedback
- Wow where do I begin? The Jolly Rogues made my Mom's 80th birthday party, she was overwhelmed!! This band is phenomenal and I would highly recommend them. They are the real deal when it comes to Irish Bands!! -- Jeannie H, Lowell, MA, 1/21/2012
- We could not have been happier with the performance of the Jolly Rogues! Our church members raved about the quality of their music, their instrumentation, their engagement with a dinner crowd of 150 people. Laughing, clapping, clowning, but mostly playing and singing great Irish music! They were very professional, super-easy to work with. And some of the nicest people I have ever met. You will not be disappointed. Terrific!! -- Steve C, Narragansett, RI, 10/6/2011
- The Jolly Rogues were the perfect addition to our waterfront wedding. They were professional and accommodating from day 1 of the planning process. On our wedding day they were very organized and played wonderfully. - We couldn't have been more pleased with the Jolly Rogues!!! They were the life of my parents' 60th anniversary party. The music was truly sensational and was enjoyed by all four generations of the family. The Jolly Rogues, besides being abundantly talented, are great entertainers with a sense of humor and they involve the audience in their shows. They are great fun and we can't wait to hire them again for our next family event! -- Nancy T, Shrewsbury, MA, 7/3/2010
- The Jolly Rogues filled every wish we had for our Celtic evening. They were so professional and at the same time warm and very interactive with the family. Each year we do a different family themed Christmas party and next year I want to do Celtic again just so we can have them back!! Truly the best!! -- Elizabeth B, Provincetown, MA, 12/11/2009
- I hired the Jolly Rogues on short notice to play at my wedding ceremony and cocktail hour. They were able to come up with some great music for me. They even made an old song "new" just for me for my processional. They went above and beyond to make my special day even more spectacular than what I had ever hoped for. I will definately have another party some day and hire them all over again.
