New York photographer Michelle Kawka photographs weddings like a photojournalist. She is an editorial wedding photographer with a bold, graphic, emotional and humorous style and specializes in photojournalism. Whatever venue you choose for your special day, she will create eye catching photography that will capture the spirit of your day. Michelle is based in New York City and will travel as she is a destination wedding photographer. She has traveled to the Caribbean and Europe and the United States to photograph weddings and will travel worldwide. Michelle welcomes the LGBT, gay, lesbian and pride community to photograph equality weddings. Click on the galleries to see how Michelle tells the story of your wedding day unobtrusively. Michelle's work has appeared in publications such as Business Week and Surface Magazine and has photographed for companies such as Microsoft, Wella Hair Color, Proctor & Gamble, Scholastic, NexCare First Aid Products, Post It Notes and Oscartielle Refrigeration. In addition to her commercial work, she pursues artistic projects. Most recently, a photo from her series "Beauty in Devastation" was selected to be a part of the Rising Waters exhibit at the Museum of the City of New York, which deals with the effects of the New York area of Superstorm Sandy. Her work has been exhibited at the Queens Museum of Art, Curate NYC the City Hall of the 9th Arrondissement, Paris France & The Langston Hughes Cultural Center & Library. In 2009, her project This Is Our Queens, was named one of the best of 2009 by the American Society of Media Photographers. As Vice President of the American Society of Media Photographers New York Chapter, a professional organization for photographers, Michelle has facilitated educational events. She introduced the Sandler Sales Program to ASMP NY, which guides photographers through all aspects of the sales process, the first program of its kind to be brought to the photo industry by a professional organization. She was named a Rising Star of 2012 by the Queens Courier newspaper, an award given to young professionals under 40 who display exemplary business skills and service to the community. Most recently, Michelle was asked to be a mentor for the Young Photographer's Alliance, an organization the mentors aspiring image-makers with access to the kind of practical industry knowledge, experience, resources, and contacts they need to build sustainable careers as photography professionals. Michelle is a graduate of Wesleyan University. She discovered her love of photography while studying in Padova, Italy. She continued her study of photography at the New England School of Photography in Boston and at the School of Visual Arts in New York City.
