Description

Award-winning songwriter and comedienne Carla Ulbrich sings and jokes about everything from waiting rooms to Klingons to toasted chicken sandwiches.

Her available corporate keynote programs are on the benefits of humor, reclaiming your health, and managing stress. She has preformed for Alaska Palliative Care, Nursing in Practice (England), Medicaid, The Lupus Foundation, Cardiovascular Associates, Louisiana Arts in Health Care, the Association for Applied and Therapeutic Humor, Right at Home Health Care, The Society for Arts in Health Care, Anritsu, and SePHIMA (Health Information Management).

Witty, cheery and very personable, Carla always finds a couple of opportunities in a show for 'volunteers' to come 'help her sing' up on stage (and look a little silly in front of their peers).

For corporate events, Carla customizes the program towards the needs and personality of the group.

Carla is frequently heard on Sirius XM radio, the BBC, and Dr. Demento, and has been compared to the likes of Weird Al, Chet Atkins and Arlo Guthrie.

She has released 3 CDs of her mostly clean (no cuss words) humor: Her Fabulous Debut (1999), Professional Smart Aleck (2003) and Sick Humor (2004).

Her humorous medical songs include songs such as "Sitting in the Waiting Room " "Prednisone," and 'What If Your butt Was Gone.' She also has a collection of non-medical comedic songs about topics such as Waffle House and Klingons. Carla won the 2006 Just Plain Folks Novelty song of the Year Award and is also a past winner of the South Florida Folk Festival National Song Competition. One of her songs is featured in a documentary, released Nov. 2006 to movie theaters.

In 2002, Carla suffered two small strokes and kidney failure. Undeterred, she re-learned the guitar from scratch that year, spending her many hours in doctors' waiting rooms penning funny parodies about her malady and the absurdity of the health care system. These are the songs on her most recent CD, 'Sick Humor.' She also has peened a book about her adventures as The Singing Patient called "How Can You *Not* Laugh at a Time Like This," to be released Feb. 1, 2011.

Carla seems to have found a special niche as a result of her health history: helping people find humor in the stressful and often tragic worlds of illness and health care. Her specialty is singing to caregivers (nurses, staff, hospice workers, chaplains, music therapists).

Carla tours all over the US and UK (and sometimes Canada), appearing at various listening venues, festivals including Kerrville and Falcon Ridge, medical and nursing conventions, holiday parties, awards banquets, concert series, comedy clubs, colleges, numerous radio stations, as well as spots on USA's Up All Night and PAX TV.

The act can be tailored to your needs (medical humor/ general humor/ rated G, PG, PG-13, or a little bit R), depending on your audience's expectations and comfort zone.

Feedback

  • Many compliments were received after Carla's performance. Carla was very good at contacting me right before our event, which reassured me during my hecticness. Carla managed to include some our our job titles within one of her songs, which was an awesome additive within her performance. And yes, Carla will be recommended to anyone needing a professional/personable/funny entertainer. -- Brenda B, Reading, PA, 1/6/2007

  • Carla is AWESOME! She was the highlight of our corporate event, and had our entire staff laughing with tears rolling down our cheeks. She performed for a group of medical professionals, and with her extensive background as a "professional" patient, her hysterical songs and stories fit us perfectly. She's bubbly, outgoing and witty! With an emphatic YES, we would recommend Carla Ulbrich for any occassion. -- Marcy K, South Burlington, VT, 10/18/2006
  • Carla was easy to work with and had us in stiches. I would recommend her for other company functions. -- Linda L, Clinton, NJ, 12/8/2007
  • Carla was great! She was perfect for the audience we had to entertain. (The audience was in-home caregivers.) It is perfect that she could relate to our audience and she truelly shower her appreciation for what the audience did every day. I would definitly use Carla again and especially refer her to others. -- Stacey C, Cherry Hill, NJ, 11/9/2006
