Basically, Bob plays music most of us know or grew up with, and usually the audience ends up singing along with him. He covers a variety of musical genres that emphasize country classics such as the songs of Hank Williams, Ray Price and Merle Haggard, Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys, and Gene Autry. But Bob just can't resist a good song - because of his broad background in popular music, Bob often includes selected classic swing tunes like "All of Me" and "Blue Moon", 60's to 70's country or folk such as songs of John Denver, the Everly Brothers, the Eagles, or James Taylor. Gary Howe, an outstanding fiddle player here in Oklahoma, often joins Bob providing authentic Western Swing and Cowboy fiddle licks and great harmonies.
Bob Welp is a guitarist and vocalist who began playing music when he was 10. He played in several bands in high school. Then, during his college years, Bob became a lead vocalist and played coffee houses, ski resorts, small clubs, VFW halls, and private dinners - performing mainly acoustic folk music such as James Taylor, Bob Dylan, Eagles, Beatles, Simon & Garfunkel and the like. After college, Bob focused on raising a family and completing post-graduate work. He didn't play for 25 years!
In the mid-nineties Bob got the music and performing bug again and studied traditional music genres such as country, bluegrass, Irish fiddle tunes, and western swing. For the past 10 years Bob has been lead vocalist and guitarist for a variety of bands, duos, and trios for various central Oklahoma venues that have included regular band and solo performances at the Swadley's BBQ restaurant chain, Mickey's Country Kitchen, the Blue Bell Saloon in Guthrie, and several appearances at Oklahoma City's Paseo Arts Festival. For the past 5 years Bob has also been a regular entertainer at several retirement and assisted living facilities throughout the Oklahoma City metropolitan area. Bob loves to play and entertain and has performed over 800 shows.
Today Bob crosses musical lines to perform the best of traditional music – songs many of us know by Hank Williams, Ray Price, Merle Haggard, Bob Wills, Vince Gill, Gene Autry, John Denver, Johnny Cash, Ricky Skaggs, the Everly Brothers, Eagles, Ray Charles, Frank Sinatra, Ernest Tubb, Ricky Nelson, Kenny Rogers, Willie Nelson, and on…
