Description
Texas Pearl is an experienced band that plays a variety of Country, Classic Rock, Classic R&B, and Blues. We have a lot of fun. If you hire us, we'll do a great job for your event. Please check out our samples, recorded live in a home studio. More to come.
Texas Pearl is John Fulton on bass and vocals, George Kovitch on drums, Dave West on guitar and vocals, and Gary Ward on guitar and vocals.
John is a native Texan and has been playing and singing in bands and his church for decades. John attributes his love of music to his childhood evenings with his grandparents, who were both accomplished musicians. They taught him to sing and play bass, and he would accompany them while his grandmother played piano and his grandfather guitar. Later on in life, John found a home in church music and traveled extensively throughout the Southern United States singing and playing with the Southern Gospel Music Association. In 1990, John was voted the Favorite First Tenor in Texas by the fans of the Southern Gospel Music Association. Somewhere along the line, John started listening to country music and found it was a natural fit with his abilities, which have developed him into an accomplished studio musician, song writer, and producer. While he has spent much of his musical life on the road, the time has come for him to put down roots with Texas Pearl.
George "Hit Man" Kovitch began playing piano at the age of 5 and later added drums as a second instrument. As a young musician, he was a classical percussionist with the St. Louis Philharmonic Orchestra, and he played various venues with the Herb Drury Jazz Trio, The Velvetones, The Devil's Desciples and The Cautions. Being young and restless, George spent two years on the road playing blue-eyed soul, rock, and R&B—he even claims to remember part of this (hey, it was the 60s). He was a studio musician for the now defunct Hi record label in Memphis before leaving the music scene to pursue an education and a career. After relocating to Dallas, George reentered the music scene playing drums with WhoNew, The Rick Yost Band, Mo Villains, and Vinyl Echoes. He is also a session musician for The Manor Studio in Rockwall. "I've always been lucky in finding opportunities in music. Relocating to Dallas has given me the opportunity to play with some really fine musicians and share some good sounds with new friends and acquaintances"
Dave grew up in Seattle as part of a very musically oriented family, having jazz guitarist, musical theater, and choir director folks in his immediate family. He played clarinet and bass clarinet in his school orchestra before picking up a guitar as a teenager and learning rock and roll. 70s rock music was a big influence that honed his playing skills early on, especially the licks of Led Zeppelin and Jimi Hendrix. Since his rock days, Dave has developed interests in a wide variety of musical styles. His resume includes playing with rock bands, a celtic fusion band, and a Johnny Cash tribute band. Relocating to Dallas from the San Diego area has provided him the opportunity to contribute to the country music scene with his involvement with Texas Pearl. He loves to sing and has an excellent voice that blends well with the rest of our accomplished musicians.
Gary has been playing and singing in one band or another since the 1960s. Gary has played country, classic rock and blues for some well known artists, including Freddy Fender, Chris Layton (went on to Stevie Ray Vaughn and Double Trouble), and Cid Sanchez (went on to play with John Mayall and the Blues Breakers). In 2003, one of Gary's original songs "Questions" recieved radio play on over 400 radio stations. In 2007, another one of Gary's songs "I've Already Played That Song" recieved national and international play on FM and AM Stations
