Description
Michele L. Whitney is dedicated to providing flute music for all of your special events. These
events include, but are not limited to: Weddings; Dinner Parties; Trade Shows; Private Parties; Fundraisers; or any kind of event where flute music is desired.
Michele specializes in Classical music, however, Contemporary, Jazz, R&B, Latin, Movie Tunes, and Lite Sounds may be available.
I have been playing the flute for over 20 years, performing in different venues throughout the Chicago area, with over 5 years in the performance business. I work very closely with my clients to understand the the environment of the event. The end result will be an amazing musical experience that no one will forget.
Many people may think of the flute as a soft, unheard instrument. However, my sound is unique. My flexible sound can resonate through a quiet wedding ceremony, filling the hearts of the bride and groom, or filter through a noisy dinner party, making the guests snap their fingers or sway to the music. The type of music that is chosen is based upon your event. And if desired, all music chosen is approved by the client before the event.
Biography: At a young age, Michele L. Whitney has been exposed to all types of music, and at the age of 9 found her passion in the oldest known wind instrument...the flute. Michele was born and raised on the South Side of Chicago where she attended Poe Classical School, a gifted school that had a special program dedicated to the performing arts. in 1988, Michele won a scholarship to attend the Sherwood Conservatory of Music in Chicago, where she studied privately for several years. While studying at Sherwood, Michele participated in the Morgan Park High School Band, and in 1992 was selected to join the Chicago Public School's All City High School Band. She was a member of the All City Band until 1994. Michele has also performed in several other local events, church services, and orchestras including the Hyde Park Youth Sinfonia (Currently known as the Hyde Park Youth Symphony). Although primarily trained in classical music, Michele also has an extensive contemporary and jazz repertoire. From 2004-2005, Michele was a member of the Sherwood Conservatory Adult Flute Choir.
Michele is also a writer, and holds a Bachelor of Science in Marketing as well as an MBA. If she is not writing, volunteering, or playing the flute, she divides her time between her fishkeeping hobby, being an aunt to two young adult nieces, caring for her mother, and taking care of her feline animal companion, Samson.
Michele's ultimate goal is to increase awareness of the overall health benefits of animals and music. Currently, she is working on a PhD in Human Services where her dissertation topic will be on the human-animal bond. She also studies flute privately.
