Ken Watson

One of Boston's premier pianists, Ken Watson provides music for social events of all types and sizes - wedding ceremonies, cocktail hours, dinner parties. He loves to perform and delights in being among those who love piano music.

Ken's repertoire includes American and popular standards and Broadway favorites as well as more contemporary artists, including the Beatles, Elton John, Billy Joel, Journey, Sting, Buffet, the Eagles, Morrison, Clapton, Garth Brooks, Rascal Flats, Ben Folds and many others. He plays Ragtime as well. Ken also is constantly mastering and performing classical pieces. He has long entertained at holiday parties and has compiled arrangements of carols and holiday songs.

For decades Ken has played at venues in and around Boston, including the Sheraton Tara Framingham, the Commandant's House, the Long Wharf Marriott Hotel, the Commonwealth Hotel, the College Club, the Boston College Club, the Boston University Castle, the Hyatt, Marriott and Hilton Hotels, Boston World Trade Center, the Seaport Hotel, the State Room, the Boston Harbor Hotel, and many other city hotels. He has played throughout New England at venues such as the Lanam Club, Granite Links, the Henderson House, the Aldrich Mansion, the Blithewold Mansion, Lake View Pavillion, Spenelli's, Mount Washington Hotel, the Colony Hotel in Kennebunkport, the Riverview in Simsbury, CT, and many banquet halls, inns, and private homes throughout the region.

Ken is a graduate of Shenandoah Conservatory of Music in Winchester, Virginia. He was the last pianist for the WBZ/CBS4 Children's Hospital Telethon, held annually during the holidays. Ken has been a long-time music teacher and accompanist to many accomplished soloists and instrumentalists.

Ken can bring up to three of his professional quality Yamaha digital pianos to any venue where an acoustic piano is not available. At a wedding, for example, he can set up one piano for the ceremony, another for the cocktail hour, and another in the dinner area. He also provides a microphone when needed.

• We are delighted that we chose to invite Ken into our home and entertain our guests. He was extremely flexible and courteous in the selection of the play list, and went out of his way to assemble the lyrics of the songs we chose so that some of our guests could participate. Our theme was 50's era romantic songs from the American songbook, typically the songs sung by Frank Sinatra, Doris Day, Mel Torme, etc. Ken is very familiar with this genre and plays it confidently and well. • I hired Ken for my very non-traditional wedding day; which included a 20 minute ceremony and a 3 hour cocktail reception held in the same place. Ken provided the music for both the ceremony and for the entire reception. He was the only "entertainer" and his beautiful talent resonated throughout the large home where it all took place. I would have liked to have had him featured more, but logistically it just didn't work (although to no fault of Ken's). Nevertheless, his fancy finger work added a wonderful backdrop to a spectacular and laid-back evening. Ken took all the special requests I had and we worked together consistently for months (via e-mail) to ensure that both my mother and I were equally as satisfied; she got her Gershwin standards and I got my Stevie Wonder. When my musicians weren't able to arrive early enough to play music before the ceremony, Mr. Watson offered to play and even let us use his excellent digital piano for the ceremony. He arrived early, stayed late, and seemed to magically reappear in just the right place as the guests moved from the ceremony to the cocktail hour to the dinner.
