New England Consevatory Alumni Classical Guitarist for Weddings, Corporate Parties, Dinners, Memorial Services and festivals. 45 years experience. Reportoire from Bach to flamenco, Ragtime to Beatles and standards arranged for classical and fingerstyle guitar. New England Conservatory has called his playing 'an honest if not brilliant approach to guitar playing" Alan started playing electric guitar at age thirteen and played in several rock bands in the midwest before developing an interest in classical or "spanish" guitar which is always played on a nylon string instrument which has a richer and more mellow tone than the steel sring guitar. Alan studied first with James Bleskan in Wisconsin and then with Jeff Van and Charlie Pederson in Minneapolis. Alan then went on to study guitar with Robert Paul Sullivan at New England Conservatory in Boston. He also studdied with Bill Viola And Joe Mayes in Philadelphia.Alan also Studdied jazz guitar with Harry Chalmiers at the Indian Hill School of Music in Littleton,Ma. Alan was the first Student to recieve credit for Classical Guitar at The Unniversity of Wisconsin, Superior chiefly from his own efforts in pursuading the Administration in recognizing the Guitar as a worthy insrument of serious study alongside the piano and violin. Alan also studied string bass under Johann Lingamen while at the Unniversity of Wisconsin. Alan has a huge repoirtoire from the Rennasaince period music of John Dowland such as the Frog Galliarde or from the baroque period such as Jesu Joy or the 1st lute suite by J.S. Bach to Spanish Romantic music such as Granada or Sevilla by Issac Albeniz or La Maja De Goya by Enrique Granados. Alan also plays things like Beatles for classical guitar such as Across the Unniverse or Here There and Everywhere. Feedback
- Alan was great. Professional and very eager to please. Due to the last minute booking (1 week from our wedding) he was very accommodating. -- Jason B, Lyman, ME, 9/25/2010
- Alan was a pleasure to work with. He was extremely professional and accommodating, and in my opinion went well above and beyond what we were paying him for. He played for our wedding reception in a big house in Maine and the atmosphere was perfect. Thanks Alan! -- Jason S, Bar Harbor, ME, 6/17/2011
- Alan is not only very talented but a great person to work with. He played at our wedding on the beach in mid-coast maine and his music added a nice touch to our special day. I would recommend him. -- Cliff P, Georgetown, ME, 10/1/2011
- VERY PROFESSIONAL, GREAT BACKGROUND MUSIC IN RESTAURANT DINING ENVIRONMENT -- GiGi M, Readfield, ME, 1/7/2012
- Alan was very talented, & came dressed for the occasion, donning a green coat & St.Patricks day themed tie- which was nice. He was very friendly. A little socially awkward, but extremely talented, we thought. His professionalism & talent really added a nice ambiance to our event. He may have been a little surprised that a couple of other people showed up unannounced to play their fiddles (at first), but he was willing to share the stage w/them, & did not make a fuss about how he was the one that was hired. He was very friendly. He was no bother at all, really. We would like to have him back again if he is available! We appreciated his service. Made the event special! -- Jessfriends P, Searsport, ME, 3/17/2012
- Alan was extremely flexible and accommodating and did his best to make sure that my daughter's wedding was a success. He is a great musician and a very considerate gentleman. I would recommend him without hesitation. Cheers! -- Lou G, Wiscasset, ME, 4/28/2012
- Thanks Alan for all your hard work! -- Bonnie R, Moncton, NB, 5/18/2012
- Alan was very accommodating to our requests. He sent us a playlist in advance for our approval. Everyone at the dinner was very happy with his playing. If I needed background music for an event in the future, I would not hesitate to contact him. -- James W, Boothbay Harbor, ME, 9/4/2010
