Description

Recently the band recorded a live concert at the PBS station WSRE-TV. The concert is now being edited for broadcast. We have posted several clips from the concert for your viewing.

Ceol Leinn ( pronounced Key'Ol Lane'ya....Gaelic for "Music With Us") is a Celtic Performance band; we are entertainers. Our music is exciting, energetic, entertaining, historical, traditional and what some may call, "World Music. We currently have three tunes being played in rotation on international Celtic Roots Radio, out of Belfast, North Ireland. Our music is both romantic and stirring, as is the history that is so much a part of our collective Celtic ancestry. The roots of Blue Grass are explored, along with the music coming from the conflicts and trials of the Scottish Highlanders, their cousins in Ireland. The band has original tunes and also writes and arranges contemporary music which they mix in freely with the traditional tunes.

The lights dim low, a figure steps to the giant Celtic War Drums. With the accompaniment of the other percussionist, the thunder of the drums awakens everyone to the experience they are about to have. As the rest of the band joins in rhythmic drumming the two pipers start an ancient medley.... and one by one the other instruments join in, to an awakening. First a slow air which evolves into a jig in a minor key, evolving further to a major key jig, and resolving into the minor dominant melody. The performance begins.

There will be tunes that are dark and moody, then lively and up beat. Before long... there will be a revelation of sorts as you realize you are hearing the roots of Bluegrass. The unique combination of instruments and musicians in Ceol Leinn provides an entertaining performance to the most jaded. On occasion you can see two of the musicians break out into an Irish Dance during one of the Reels being played.

The band performs in several guises, with the primary being as a Celtic Band, but they also have a bit of debauchery in them when they perform as Celtic Pirate Band. They also have a great love for country and swing music which is a natural for the musicians and the instruments they play. They have added a one hour set of classic Rock Music also.

The band is available for private engagements, corporate engagements and concerts. The performance package can be tailored to some degree for each contracted event, and the pipers are always willing to perform for opening ceremonies, or other special events.

Feedback

  • Required a lot of light/sound assistance. Unable to move performance time later due to leaving area so dinner served during performance. Also, arrived 5 hours later than expected, delaying light/sound set-up. -- Darlene L, Gainesville, VA, 3/18/2012
