Bryan West is an exciting and versatile cellist who has performed all over the United States and Europe. He studied cello performance and music composition at UCLA, where he received a full tuition scholarship for cello performance. His teachers have included Antonio Lysy, Mihai Tetel, William Skeen, and Jennifer Culp (Kronos Quartet), and he has participated in prestigious music festivals in both the United States and Europe.
As a chamber musician, Bryan has performed in a wide variety of ensembles with some of the best musicians out there. His chamber music teachers have included Guillaume Sutre (Ysaye String Quartet), Richard O'Neill and Jennifer Culp (Kronos Quartet). While at UCLA, Bryan was a participant as a member of a cello quartet in the Gluck Music Outreach Program, performing in schools, community centers, and public libraries for audiences who normally wouldn't get to enjoy live classical music.
Bryan is an experienced composer and arranger, and is especially proficient at arranging for strings. He has written several string quartets and numerous pieces for solo cello, as well as several orchestral compositions.
Outside of the classical realm, Bryan has maintained a love of traditional American and European folk music, creating his own unique arrangements of songs for solo cello as well as other instrumental ensembles. Currently, he is the cellist and vocalist with experimental ensemble Point Reyes and also is an active collaborator with a number of singer-songwriters in New York. He has performed with Darren Criss (Glee), Lady Danville (a rising indie band from Los Angeles), Charlene Kaye (NYC), and has played in venues such as the House of Blues, the Roxy on the Sunset Strip, Disney Hall, and Davies Symphony Hall.
