Hello and Thank You for considering me at your up and coming event.
My name is Tom Armstrong. I am a guitarist and singer songwriter who also enjoys telling a good story on occasion. I am living in Everett, Washington and currently I write, play, arrange, and sings solo, with a three piece, and with the original Seattle based band Rare Elephant.
I started playing guitar at a young age. Before I that my influences emanated from a huge Sears Stereo Console that had an AM radio and a turn table. (1964) I laid back and rocked on the families first Lazy Boy and listened to the Beatles, Donovan, The Monkeys, Johnny Cash, Miles Davis, Tammy Wynette, The Rolling Stone, The Who, Willie Nelson, The Turtles, just to name a few on the airwaves back then.
I am mostly self taught finger style guitarist except for a semester of classical guitar while attending the Lionel Hampton School of Music. I graduated from the University of Idaho with an interdisciplinary degree in music theory, vocals, language studies, and philosophy. While attending I taught guitar and classical theory as it applied to the guitar in down town Moscow, ID. Two of my students Wes Weddell and Josh Ritter have taken those dreams farther. I also wrote, arranged, and performed incidental music for Shelley Werner Dance Studios and at Washington State University Theater Department for Doctor Terry Converse.
As for equipment I have a professional 6 channel Mackie Board, power speakers, and monitor that will work for any room that will fit up to 250 people. Solo I prefer to play the acoustics but do have the capability to play my 1960 Sears Silvertone Jazz Eletric. My electric setup, along with the Silvertone, is the 60's classic Brittish sound Rickenbacker 660 guitar through a ac15 VOX amplifier. John Lennon played a Rickenbacker 335 usually through a VOX ac30.
I arrange and play a wide variety of tunes including folk, blues, country, rock, jazz, and pop covers. I have available either solo and three piece performances. If you should want to have Rare Elephant to come and perform the band plays all original music. I have placed mp3s of our last CD in the audio section of this profile if you should be interested.
Thank You Again for taking the time.
