The Bluegrass Gentlemen, with their acoustically driven sound, have their roots in the upstate area of South Carolina. The Ensemble is comprised of four individuals with a deep passion for delivering a mix of traditional, contemporary and gospel bluegrass, blended with a little classic country. The harmony in these voices is second to none. We have more than 140 years of combined experience of delivering a well balanced mix of music, from Hard driving, traditional & contemporary, bluegrass gospel, & soulful heart wrenching ballads, combined with a little classic country reminiscent of the sounds of yesterday. Jeff Barnett, leader and founding member of The Bluegrass Gentlemen is somewhat of an ambassador of preserving and promoting Bluegrass Music in the upstate of SC. He has been honing his skills of playing and singing bluegrass/gospel music and entertaining audiences across the southeast for the past 15 years. Jeff was also a founding member of a local group, Cane Creek, from Anderson, with whom he played upright bass. Jeff sings lead and plays a driving rhythm guitar. He draws his singing style from the the likes of Tony Rice, David Parmley, Jimmy Martin, Ricky Skaggs, Charlie Waller , and many other bluegrass greats. Jeff was born and raised in Greenville, SC where he makes his home. Alan Brooker is an accomplished seasoned musician who plays banjo , & mighty fine banjer pickin' machine he is. He studied under the tutelage of the great Al Osteen for many years, & was a close friend of Al's as well. Alan also had a lot to do with one of the finest female banjo pickers there has ever been, world renowned Banjoist, Kristen Scott Benson, whom has played with many of the bluegrass greats, such as Larry Stephenson band, Larry Cordle & Lonesome Standard time, Now plays with the supergroup, The Grascals. Alan was Kristen's first banjo teacher, she then later on went on to take from Alan's mentor, Al Osteen. Needless to say, Alan is one of the finest banjo players in this part of the country & glad to have him part of the band. Alan make s his home in DC, that's Dark Corner, for those of you who don't know, A little community just off Highway 11 near Landrum, SC. Jackie Wooten plays upright bass, sings lead, baritone, tenor, and bass. He is one of the finest and most diverse harmony singers around. Jackie was raised in a musical family and having played bluegrass for nearly 40 years, he has become a veteran of the local bluegrass scene in S. C. In the mid 80's, Jackie was a member of Skyline Bluegrass Express, a group of local musicians who entertained audiences at bluegrass shows and festivals across the southeast. He also played the great Grand Ole Opry, invited by none other than the father of Bluegrass music, Mr Bill Monroe. Jackie is also a fine mandolin player who has written and recorded several songs. He is from Anderson County, and now makes his home in Pendleton, S.C. Terry Anderson plays mandolin, sings some lead & baritone vocals. Terry is one of the best musicians around. He has played & still plays with The 5th String Band from Greenville, SC, he has played with them for 25 years. Terry makes his home in Pickens, SC in a little community known as Pumpkintown, or as he calls it, " Punkintown ".

Private PartyReviewed on November 14, 2016From Lake Junaluska, NC

As a musician myself I can unequivocally recommend this group to anyone desiring to have a quality group of bluegrass musicians. My group of senior adults were thoroughly entertained by this group of guys. They absolutely loved the event. The group was very professional and were engaging with the audience during the concert. I would not hesitate to use the Bluegrass Gentlemen at my next event. Great job!

The Bluegrass Gentlemen:

Thanks Gary so much for your nice comments!! We thoroughly enjoyed playing you and your group! I think we enjoyed it as much they enjoyed us, and really made it a fun gig for us. Hope to meet you again soon! With kindest regards, Jeff Barnett
