Description

Smooth Kentucky blends bluegrass, newgrass, Americana and roots to provide a unique sound guaranteed to enhance your musical needs. We also understand the stress of events and do everything we can to make everything seem seamless and enjoyable.

The group, formed in 2003, features the core trio of singer/songwriter/guitarist Ed Hough, mandolinist/songwriter BJ Lazarus, upright bassist David Frieman and adds lead guitarist/singer Tim Pruitt and fiddle virtuoso Patrick McAvinue to round out a 5-piece. Depending on the event, the group can be smaller or larger, adding Mike Munford on banjo as well as a number of great players we've worked with over the years.

We have performed throughtout Maryland at venues (Ram Head Live, State Theater, 8x10, Recher Theater, Nissan Pavilion Side Stage and many more), regional festivals and concert series (FloydFest, Takoma Park Folk Fest, Ladew Topiary Gardens, Boordy Vineyards and more), many local benefits and backyards in Baltimore. We have opened for Del McCoury, Sam Bush, Tony Trishka Band, The Infamous Stringdusters, Steep Canyon Rangers, The Bridge, Railroad Earth, The Hackensaw Boys, Hot Buttered Rum, Patrick Davis Hit and Run Bluegrass and The Mammals. We are played on 89.7 WTMD, 93.1 WPOC, 88.5 WAMU and by Gracie Muldoon.

Two CDs have been released: "Smooth Kentucky" (8/2004) and "A Few More Miles" (4/2009). You can listen to them at (search "Smooth Kentucky").

Our playlist consists of toe-tapping originals and wide-ranging covers (from traditional bluegrass tunes to The Grateful Dead, Bob Dylan, Keb Mo, Allison Krauss, Van Morrison, Hot Rize, BB King, instrumentals and many others) and can be personalized as needed.
