About Vendor

Old time music is real mountain music. It bubbles up out of the Appalachians, the Allegheny's and the Ozarks and has become the music of everyone who values rural life. The Clearly Related String Band is a group of New England musicians who love the old time sounds of fiddle, banjo and guitar, played against a full moon. Featuring pre-bluegrass hoedowns, lost lonesome ballads, and music that calls for barn dancing and rolling up the rug, The Clearly Related String Band plays homemade music that will remind you about what's important in life. Some of their music is historical, learned from 78 recordings of the likes of the Skillet Lickers, the Fruit Jar Drinkers, and long gone masters of Americana, while some of their tunes take in the rich folk traditions of New England, especially those songs that band members have written. Tap your foot, grab your partner, dosey-doe and jump and shout, the Clearly Related String Band's music will remind you what life is really all about! Members include: Larry Warren on Fiddle: Larry grew up in the Lakes Region of NH and started playing the fiddle in the early 1990's. Larry's fiddle style is deeply influenced by the Irish community in Dover, NH and his French Canadian heritage. Along the way Larry became interested in Canadian styles of fiddle such as PEI, Cape Breton and the Ontario sound. However, once he found Southern Appalachian music he has never looked back. The end result is a fiddle style that is uniquely his own. Larry works for the USPS as a Rural Carrier in Wolfeboro, NH and lives in Brookfield, NH with his wife Susan and their two children Brooke and Sam. Cork Washburne on Guitar: Cork has been playing guitar since age seven. Starting with folk music, then rock and roll, and returning to all styles of folk, his musical journey has included playing Celtic, French Canadian, and old-time mountain music. In addition to his great back-up playing and singing, he has also co-written several fiddle tunes with Larry. Cork is a self -employed home improvement contractor. He and his wife Judie live in Acton, Me. Malcolm Smith on Banjo: Malcolm is a native of Kansas now living in Durham, NH whose grandfather was a Southern fiddler and whose mother loved to sing the old Southern songs. His driving clawhammer banjo style is reminiscent of the Ozark style of Missouri and Arkansas near his former home. Malcolm is a professor at UNH in Family Studies and with his wife Karen, is learning to love the new home they've made in New England. Karen often joins the group on fiddle.
