About Vendor

Learn more about this vendor for your event.

I began piping in May 1964, under the instruction of Pipe Major James Gallagher of the Glenaine Pipe Band. Since that time, I have played in seven pipe bands in New York, New Jersey, Virginia and Pennsylvania. Those bands also included the New York Gaelic Pipe Band and the Hudson District Pipes and Drums. I have competed in both pipe band and solo piping competitions throughout the Eastern United States. I have received piping instruction from a number of champion pipers, including Pipe Majors Angus MacDonald and Linden Ingram of the Scots Guards, and Pipe Major John Sprague of the City of Alexandria Pipes & Drums. Between 1987 - 2003, I played on Long Island with the Nassau County Police Pipe Band. On a number of occasions, this band won first place in the annual St. Patrick's Day Parade in New York City. Between 2010 - 2016, I played with the City of Alexandria Pipes & Drums in Northern Virginia. I also played tenor drum and bugle with this band. Having moved to Pennsylvania in 2015, I played with the Kiltie Band of York, a traditional Scottish regimental-style pipe band. Later, I played with Ceol Neamh, a competition pipe band in Lancaster, PA. The name in Gaelic means "Heavenly Music." In February 2020, I accepted the appointment of Pipe Major (the Director of Music) of the Quittapahilla Highlanders Pipe Band in Lebanon, PA; a position that I held for two years. I am currently the pipe major of the Regimental Pipes & Drums, a living-history group that portrays a pipe band of 1st Battalion, The Black Watch during World War II. Over the years, I have played at numerous solo piping events, including weddings, funerals, memorial services, birthdays and other special occasions. Notable locations have included the Pennsylvania State Capitol, Arlington National Cemetery, memorial services at the U.S. Penitentiary at Lewisburg, PA, Bryn Athyn Cathedral and the U.S. Army War College. I specialize in both Scottish and Irish piping tunes by category. I am able to tailor my performance to the requirements of the event. Clients have been impressed that I play Smallpipes for indoor events. A review of the photos in my Profile will reveal that I specialize in wearing military-style full-dress in a number of tartans, but can appear in formal "black-tie," or Daywear attire in kilt, Argyll/Tweed jacket and tie. I am very flexible, and clients are always impressed with my professionalism, presentation and ability to work closely with clients on the selection of music, attire and other details of the engagement.

Retirement PartyReviewed on April 21, 2024From Gettysburg, PA

Thank you! Wonderful piping at my retirement gathering. I hope to use his bagpiping again!

Gus Person:

Chris, a US Army Major, hired me to play at his 60th Birthday and Army retirement party at the Gettysburg Hotel in the downtown area. I played as guests were arriving, and then played during the ceremony. I also played Happy Birthday as he cut the cake. Theis was an excellent event, and an opportunity to pipe for a fellow soldier.

FuneralReviewed on April 2, 2024From Elysburg, PA

Gus Person was very professional and I was glad I hired him to play at the gravesite of my late father after the funeral. It was uplifting, and I'm sure my father was looking down and smiling. I would definitely recommend him to anyone looking for a talented bagpiper.

Gus Person:

I was engaged to lay at the funeral interment of an Irish American US Navy veteran at the All Saints Cemetery in Elysburg, PA. I played a selection of Irish tunes as the casket was conveyed to the gravesite at the Columbarium. The family had requested me to play O' Danny Boy after the final prayers. The military honors were conducted by personnel from the Naval Reserve.

WeddingReviewed on March 26, 2024From Stafford, VA

When my husband and I were planning our wedding, I wanted to have a surprise for our guests. I immediately thought of Gus Person! Gus listened to what I wanted, then made suggestions that made sense and the music memorable. He played a special song before the bridal march, and then the bridal march as requested. Since my husband is a retired officer in the Marine Corps, when Gus played the Marine Corps Hymn as we were introduced as Mr. & Mrs. everyone stood and clapped. I want Gus to know how much we appreciate the professionalism, timeliness, attention to detail, and talents. If you’re looking for someone to play bagpipes at your event, Gus Person, is the one!

Gus Person:

Suzi, a longtime family friend engaged me to play at her wedding at the Ramoth Baptist Church in Stafford, Virginia. I played for the Processional, which included the Prince of Denmark's March (The Trumpet Voluntary). After the service, I played outside as the guests were departing for the Reception. At the Officers' Club at the Quantico US Marine Corps Base, I played for the introduction of the Bridal Couple. Many of the Groom's fellow veterans were pleased to stand for the Marine Corps Hymn.
