When you hire the Shaw Strings you get outstanding musicans as well as peace of mind! Founded in 1989, the Shaw Strings can provide you with a string quartet, trio, duo,solo harp or classical guitar. You can substitute a flute for the first violin if you wish. We charge by the event, not the exact time and arrive 1 hour prior to every event so that we can be ready to play as soon as your guests arrive. We work closely with your event planner and/or banquet manager or officiant. Our repertoire lists include classical, popular tunes and favorites from Broadway shows. If we don't have your song, we will work together with you to get an arrangement to personalize your wedding. The Shaw Strings consists of 65 carefully selected musicians who play together on a regular basis. We are not union musicians who have to work within very strict union rules, nor are we a pick-up group. We rehearse regularly and play several times a year as the Shaw Symphonette - usually for a fund raising project or civic event. Since we are not just a group of four, we don't have to worry about cancelling due to illness or family events. We will be there no matter what the weather! Your event is very important to us!

1) Very nice people, communicated well over the phone, HOWEVER2) They were an hour late and we had to have the funeral begin late while waiting for them.3) They didn't have the opening hymn music, or the offertory hymn and hadn't asked for this music ahead of time, even though it was offered.4) During the one hymn that was requested by the family the violin player stopped playing because his pages weren't in order or he got lost. He mentioned that it was a hard key and he could've used a rehearsal. 5) The postludes were good pieces of music but some of the playing was flat. The pitchiness made it difficult for the soloist to sing with them.

My wife and I would highly recommend The Shaw Strings. When I first contacted Virginia Schawacker about performing at my daughter's wedding she made me feel at ease. She forwarded a DVD with a sample of their performances and recommended music selections. Whenever I spoke with her on the phone it was like talking with an old friend. On the day of the wedding she and her fellow musicians were at the church over an hour early, set up and ready to perform. Their performance was fantastic. Following the wedding many of our friends and family commented on how beautiful the cermony was and how the string quartet added that special touch. A job well done!!!!

Shaw Strings arrived at the event an hour late, without calling, and without a second violinist, which was not only unprofessional but also inconsiderate. I do not recommend them.

Shaw Strings:

Scott is a freshman at a music school in Boston and booked us within 10 days of the event. In fact there was so little time between the booking and the event I didn't get a deposit. Scott asked if he could sit in with us as our cellist and I agreed to let him play. Our second violinist got sick shortly before we left for the gig so we played with just the 3 of us. We arrived 45 minutes before the bride walked down the aisle. We played in a very tight space which barely worked for a trio and played 8 preludes, then the music for the parents to be seated and then the Canon in D for the bride and her bridal party.
