Washington Area Music Award for 2013 & 2014's Best Traditional/Folk Group The Bumper Jacksons are not your typical wedding band. "[They are] a big, fat party. Hot and sweet, their trad jazz and pre-war country repertoire paint's America's story from New Orleans' brothels to Appalachian hollers. Each show is rowdy and riotous, with the occasional hush of tenderness. Unafraid to scrap together new sounds from a junkyard of forgotten 78's, the Bumper Jacksons boldly and elegantly balance paying homage to the traditions while fashioning their own unique, DIY style." We have been touring everywhere east of the great Mississippi to perform in concert halls, festivals, rowdy clubs, outdoor stages, weddings and even backyard parties while loving every minute of it. Let us bring some of this joy to your event! We specialize in seamlessly shifting from quiet, elegant jazz ballads or Appalachian folk tunes into fun and upbeat numbers that will fill up the dance floor. Whether its a wedding ceremony or reception, or even a pig roast in the backyard, we know how to bring those important moments to life with music. The musicians are: Jess Eliot Myhre: vocals, washboard, clarinet, ukulele Chris Ousley: vocals, guitar, banjo, ukulele Alex Lacquement: upright bass Brian Priebe: trombone Dan Samuels: drums, percussion Dave Hadley: pedal steel/dobro with our most frequent special guests: Patrick McAvinue: violin/fiddle, vocals Anna Roberts-Gevalt: vionlin/fiddle, vocals Johnny Peppercraft: Bass, baritone, tenor, alto & soprano saxophones. Vince McCool: trumpet We do perform original music, but we have an enormous repertoire of tunes from the 1900's-1940's and we're always happy to take requests for your special event no matter the era. We have a great sound system available if you should need it for your event, which you can use for toasts, recorded playlists, announcements, etc. We are also happy to take over emcee duties as well. And, if you are hoping for a really unique dance experience, we regularly travel with one of the best square dance callers on the east coast who is amazingly great at getting EVERYONE out dancing. Perfect for rustic or rural themed weddings, and we transform into a pretty killer old time/bluegrass band for such moments, if I do say so myself. Its an experience not to be missed! Thanks for reading our profile! Check out the cool pictures and music videos done by our in-house photographer/videographer as well as the photos from some of the events we've played across this beautiful country. Hope to be hearing from you soon! ---------- 2014 Washington Area Music Awards "Best Folk/Traditional Album" Winner 2013 & 2014 Washington Area Music Awards "Best Folk/Traditional Group" Winner 2014 Independent Music Awards "Best Americana Album" Nominee 2012 Washington Area Music Awards "Best Folk/Traditional Group" Nominees "Wildly inventive, eclectic and the most fun you can ever have at an old-fashioned dance party" - Jane Roser, That Music Mag in Philadelphia, PA "The Bumper Jacksons straddle the breadth of old-time American folk musics. Swinging their way through country blues and New Orleans jazz with equal ease, the group recreates the sultry atmosphere of a smoke-filled speakeasy. Don't miss them!" - Zach Young, Offbeat Magazine & WWOZ in New Orleans “There was a golden time before categories like 'blues,' 'country,' and 'jazz' meant anything to anyone listening to American music. Back then, music was just 'fun.' The Bumper Jacksons, amazingly, have figured out how to get us there again.” - Aaron Henkin, WYPR in Baltimore, MD "Bursting at the seams with some of the richest threads of old America, from street blues, to country swing, to roots jazz, the Bumper Jacksons' new album, Sweet Mama, Sweet Daddy, Come In, places you at the center of a party where everyone is invited and the dance floor never sleeps! Whether you're swing dancing in your living room, two-steppin' in some old honky tonk, or dancin' in the streets, the Bumper Jacksons can certainly guarantee a good time!" - Devon Leger, Hearth Media in Portland, OR "Und alle sind von einer Spiel- und Lebensfreude, dass man mit ihnen wohl auch akademisch verbildete Jazzfans zum Tanzen bringen kann. Sehr gut!" - Nathan Norgel, Wasser-Prawda in Germany places we've played: The Kennedy Center, The Birchmere, The Glen Echo Ballroom, The Creative Alliance, Historic Synagogue at 6th & I, Rock & Roll Hotel, Motorco Music Hall, Bethesda Blues and Jazz, The Willard Hotel, Charm City Bluegrass Festival, Uke Fest Virginia, Musikfest, Wills Mountain Festival, Watermelon Park Fest, Appalachian String Band Music Festival (aka Clifftop), countless radio stations/stages in bars/backyards/underground swing dance halls/weddings/bbqs, and the streets of New Orleans.

Wedding ReceptionReviewed on November 20, 2013From Pottstown, PA

I cannot recommend this band enough. My wife and I hired them for our wedding reception. They were accessible, easy to work with during the planning, and very helpful. As for the performance, they absolutely killed it. All of our guests had a great time, and a month later, when they talk about the reception the first thing they say is how great the band was.

Wedding ReceptionReviewed on May 16, 2013From Wilkes Barre, PA

The Bumper Jacksons really made our wedding day something special. They are incredibly talented, fun, and very easy to work with. All of our family members and friends raved about the band. They worked around what we wanted and fit in perfectly with the schedule and the venue. They even took a special request and played a version of Johnny Cash's "Rose of My Heart" for the processional! It was a detail that I will always hold very dear. Chris and Jess are just phenomenally talented musicians. You will not regret booking them.

WeddingReviewed on November 5, 2013From Baltimore, MD

The Bumper Jacksons are amazing. They accommodated all our song requests, led a special Contra dance (which required significant patience as our guests were not the most coordinated dancers by the end of the night!) and throughout the entire evening everyone kept coming up to my husband and I to tell us how unique and well-done the music was. I would recommend the Bumper Jacksons to anyone - the only down side is that I wish I lived on the East coast so I could see them play again.
